Groups

AYSP offers several parenting groups for parents/caregivers, and various support and educational groups for youth throughout the year.

Group Triple P (Positive Parenting Program)

Group Triple P is an 8-9 week evidence-based, educationally-focused parenting group for parents/caregivers of children (ages 0-12) and youth (ages 12-17). Triple P Groups are designed for parents/caregivers with concerns about their child/teen’s behaviour or who wish to learn a variety of parenting skills that will promote their child/teen’s development and potential.

Parent/Caregiver Workshops

Parent/Caregiver virtual workshops are offered regularly throughout the year. "Managing Stress in Teens" provides parents/caregivers of youth an understanding of stress and healthy stress-reducing strategies, including mindfulness. "Parenting in the Digital Age" is a workshop for parent/caregivers which aims to create awareness and empower caregivers in addressing issues relating to social media, online gaming and cyber bullying. "School Refusal and absenteeism" offers valuable insights to recognize warning signs and implement practical strategies to help children/youth overcome school refusal and absenteeism.

Parent/Caregiver Beyond Barriers Group

The 6-session in-person or virtual group is for parents/caregivers of children and youth who identify as 2SLGBTQ+. The group provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to develop an understanding of their child/youth’s sexual orientation and gender identity and learn ways to communicate effectively with and support them. Participants will have a safe and confidential space to discuss their own needs as parents/caregivers and learn resources in the Peel community for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and their families.

TREE (Tolerating & Regulating Emotions Effectively) Group

The TREE group is an 18-weeks Skills Group for youth, ages 12-17, which aims to enhance a youth's capacity to cope with and/or problem-solve issues. The group provides the opportunity to learn and rehearse new skillful behaviours, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, dialectical thinking and validation.

Youth Beyond Barriers (YBB) Group

The Youth Beyond Barriers (YBB) Group is a weekly support and psychoeducational group which brings together 2SLGBTQ+ youth, to share their experiences and talk about issues that matter to them. Weekly topics include identity, mental health and well-being, healthy relationships, healthy sexuality, Pride, intersectionality, etc.

Youth Gender Journeys (YGJ) Group

The Youth Gender Journeys (YGJ) Group is a virtual/in-person 10-week support group for youth who identify as trans, non-binary, and/or gender non-conforming. Under the guidance of a trans-identified facilitator from the Youth Beyond Barriers program, this group aims to provide gender-diverse youth a safer space to explore their unique identities and lived experiences. Weekly topics will include self-identity, coming out, navigating discrimination, transitioning, etc., and incorporate open discussion, education, art, and the sharing of coping strategies within the group space.
